Twitter explodes as Real Madrid beat Barcelona 3-2 in extra-time thriller

Real Madrid and Barcelona Locked horns at King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, during the Supercopa de Espana semi-final. In what turned out to be a captivating encounter, Los Blancos prevailed with the odd goal of the year, as they saw off Barcelona in extra time to score a 3-2 win.

Vinicius Jr. Continuing his superb form this season with a sublime goal to break the deadlock early in the game, he shot the ball into the net with his weaker foot after a few neat touches. However, Barcelona restored the tie before time in a rather fortunate circumstance, when Luuk de Jong had the last touch of the ball to make a rough play from close range.

Barcelona faced Real Madrid despite entering the game as the underdogs but were locked in again in the second half, with Karim Benzema stamping his right in the game. The Frenchman did a fantastic job when he saved Marc-Andre ter Stegen and was present to head the home team from a few yards after being picked out by Dani Carvajal.

With only seven minutes left on the clock, the Catalan side equalized for the second time in the match, this time thanks to Ansu Fati. The substitute came on high and headed a superb pass from Jordi Alba, while Thibaut Courtois left Real Madrid no chance.

Deep into the first half of extra time, Fede Valverde delivered a remarkable strike in another El Clasiso as he shot from inside the box to use his shots into a dangerous counter-attack. The Uruguayan emerged as Real Madrid’s match winner and was ecstatic after scoring, as he took off his shirt and ran to the flag corner to celebrate with his teammates.

The Supercopa de Espana encounter between the two great rivals turned out to be one of the most exciting matches of the 2021-22 European football season, with Los Blancos facing Atletico Madrid or Athletic Bilbao in the final on January 16.

On that note, here are some of the best tweets from the clash of giants.

Didn’t Real Madrid beat Barcelona 5 times in a row?? It’s ridiculous.

You are a sick person if you are not happy with the decline of Barcelona. 😭😭😭

If Messi was at the club, Barcelona would have won 70-80% of the matches the club drew or lost this season. Talks a lot about him, again,

The kids of Barcelona were much better than Madrid today.

Frenkie de Jong has not performed better than Federico Valverde in an El Clasico since joining Barcelona.

We move. There is a lot of promise in this Barça squad. You can’t watch a game like that and not be optimistic about the future.
