Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp meanwhile is confident Steven Gerrard will manage the Reds one day.

Asked if that would happen, Klopp said: “Oh, yes, absolutely. The only problem is when is the right time for that?

“It’s not just about Stevie, we’ve seen it with Frank Lampard at Chelsea for example – a similar story.

“Stevie is doing very well because he is so young. So just when is the right time to do the job.

“It’s not that he can’t do it, it’s how long you want to do it.

“So is this your last job, is it the second job you do, the third job you do, whatever.

“Those are questions I can’t answer and I don’t think I’ll relate to him coming back here as manager.

“But yes, I think it’s bound to happen – and good for everyone.”
