The NHL has announced the suspension of the season starting on Wednesday. The tournament was set to go ahead with Tuesday night’s Flyers game against the Washington Capitals as scheduled, along with another game between Tampa Bay and Vegas before the early start of the holiday season.
The Flyers were skating their mornings and all seemed normal ahead of Tuesday’s game. Interim head coach Mike Yeo even announced that no new Flyers have joined the COVID protocol as of Monday.
However, Capitals had three players in the protocol as of Sunday and had more players in the protocol on the Tuesday before the game. With that, Tuesday’s match has been postponed.
The postponement of Tuesday’s game means an early start to the holiday season for the Flyers. They had three games postponed after COVID cases increased. Their November 30 game against the New York Islanders had been postponed due to the outbreak against the Islanders at the time, in addition to two games this week.
Next, the Flyers are scheduled to compete on Wednesday, December 29, when they begin their four-match road trip against the Seattle Kraken.
