Truck falls off Chesapeake Bay Bridge tunnel and plunges into water prompting urgent search for tractor trailer driver

A driver is urgently needed after a truck crashed out of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge tunnel and crashed into the water in Virginia.
The accident occurred around 1:50 p.m. on the 1 MP northbound. Witnesses said the truck ran over the side of the CBBT.
The driver’s status is unclear at this time, but the Coast Guard said an active search was underway.
The Coast Guard used small boats to search and a helicopter is also on site.
Two boats from Joint Expeditionary Base-Little Creek were also deployed.
Bystanders claimed that a Good Samaritan jumped into the water to help the driver, but these reports are currently unconfirmed.
A single lane is open for motorists traveling northbound and the speed limit has been lowered to 35mph.
The circumstances of the crash are being investigated.
According to the officials, there was damage to the guardrail of the bridge and damage to the curb.
Crews are working to make emergency repairs.
