TREVOR Noah has announced he is leaving The Daily Show.

Sources have cited the “demanding schedule” of the job as a reason for his departure, which comes seven years after Jon Stewart took over hosting the Comedy Central series.

Trevor, 38, announced the news on the show Thursday, telling a shocked studio audience: “After seven years, my time is up. Honestly in the most beautiful way. I loved hosting this show.”

He continued, “It was one of my greatest challenges, it was one of my greatest joys … we laughed together, we cried together.”

However, no date has been set for his departure and the satirist confirmed he will continue to host “for the time being”.

Looking back on his time on The Daily Show, Trevor told viewers: “I remember when we started out so many people thought it was a crazy bet, I still think it was a crazy choice, this random African…what.” for a trip it was. It was absolutely amazing.”

He seemed to hint at his plans for the future as he explained: “I realized there is another part of my life that I want to explore further. I miss learning other languages, I miss going to other countries and doing shows. I miss being everywhere, doing everything.”

According to Deadline, Trevor has been working with Comedy Central “for a long time” to figure out how to keep up the show’s demanding schedule.

A spokesman for the network said of the news: “We are grateful to Trevor for our amazing partnership over the past seven years.

“With no timetable for his departure, we are working together on the next steps.”

Trevor’s announcement comes after The US Sun exclusively announced in June that he could land James Corden as host of CBS’ The Late Late Show.

James, 43, is stepping down so he can spend more time with his family in the UK while, according to an insider: ‘The main name floating around behind the scenes at the moment is Trevor Noah; he would be perfect and has more than enough experience.”

The source also praised the way Trevor has acted as boss on The Daily Show.

“During the pandemic he sent many gifts to staff and made sure they were all paid; he does everything he can to make sure he doesn’t come across as an asshole.”

The source said the network is evaluating several options and the plans are in the “early days”.

Insiders have also told Variety that the program may hire a panel of multiple hosts instead.

Known to many fans as a stand-up comedian, Trevor continues to tour the world between The Daily Show’s filming hours and has a series of performances planned in his native South Africa in 2023.

He has also hosted the last two Grammy Awards and the White House Correspondents’ Dinner earlier this year.
