‘Tree Of Lights’ Holiday Show at Point State Park Retired After Over 30 Years – CBS Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Year of the Lights in Point State Park is officially over.

Duquesne Lighting says it is removing the screens to create a more sustainable, yet traditionally festive alternative to the park.
But Duquesne Light is consulting the public for next year on popular screen replacements, and is also working with HeroX to source different people’s input.

Those with enough creative ideas will receive one grand prize – five prizes totaling up to $15,000 are being awarded.
The challenge start date is February 3.
In 2020, when the company implemented the screen closure plan that has taken place every year since 1988, there was a public outcry, leading to the display being extended to 2021.

“DLC is committed to helping the city of Pittsburgh celebrate the holidays through a new and more modern light display that celebrates the richness of our city’s beloved traditions,” said Christine Waller, Vice President DLC’s president of communications said; environmental, social and governance; and for the company. “With the help of the public, we hope to replace the current display with something that will uphold the tradition our region has enjoyed over the years.”
