The bus, carrying 48 passengers, overturned and fell off a cliff en route to the Picos de Europa National Park between the town of Covadonga and Los Lagos.

The emergency services said in a statement that firefighters were on duty at the scene of the accident in Cangas de Onís.

Two witnesses said the bus rolled over twice and landed on its side, the statement said.

A police spokesman said a total of ten people were hospitalized, seven of them with serious injuries.

Four of the injured passengers were taken to the Central University Hospital of Asturias in Oviedo and Arriondas Hospital by helicopters belonging to the Fire Brigade and Civil Guard. Telecinco reports.

Police footage showed several passengers being carried on stretchers in ambulances.
