Tottenham stars must remind referee to send Eintracht Frankfurt defender off after forgetting he’s yellow carded

TOTTENHAM players were forced to remind the referee to send Eintracht Frankfurt defender Tuta off in Wednesday night’s 3-2 Champions League win.

The German side felt the pace of the competition after an hour as Spurs – already up 3-1 – rushed into the visitors’ back line before Tuta brought down Son Heung-min.

Tuta was cautioned for the second time in three minutes, which the referee didn't notice at first

And the 23-year-old Brazilian quickly entered the official book of Carlos del Cerro Grande.

Just two minutes later, Tuta cynically pulled Son down again, grabbed his shirt and pulled him to the ground.

The referee came running and gave the centre-back a second yellow card… but the Reds didn’t follow.

Spurs players Rodrigo Bentancur and Emerson Royal were seen protesting with the Spaniard in charge of the game, telling him Tuta had been booked just moments before.

After a long wait, the referee finally drew the red card to give the Frankfurter the marching orders.

Responding to the incident, one social media user said: “That referee was as overwhelmed tonight as a rabbit in the headlights. I felt sorry for him.”

While a second slammed the referee for forgetting it was Tuta’s second yellow, he added: “A few minutes after he first booked him 🙄.”

Despite a 3-1 lead and a man advantage in the final half-hour, Spurs endured a few nerve-wracking minutes against Frankfurt in the final minutes.

Faride Alidou equalized with a header from a corner to close the gap after Daichi Kamada’s early goal was canceled out by a brace from Son and a penalty from Harry Kane.

Frankfurt pushed for an unlikely equalizer in the closing moments before Tottenham broke and Bryan Gil won a penalty for the home side.

Kane stepped forward to end the game but unusually shot his penalty over the bar.

Ultimately, however, that proved irrelevant as Spurs remained at the top of their Champions League group with two rounds of play remaining.
