Tottenham star Steven Bergwijn was wanted by Ajax in the January transfer window as Daniel Levy turned down first bid of £15m

AJAX will make a last-ditch effort to bring in Steven Bergwijn – even though Antonio Conte wants him to stay.
Dutch winger Bergwijn was the hero in Tottenham’s 3-2 win over Leicester on Wednesday with two goals in stoppage time.
Amsterdam giants Ajax have turned down a £15m offer.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy hopes to recoup a larger share of the £27m he paid PSV Eindhoven for the player in 2020.
The second-placed Eredivisie has not completely given up hope of landing the 24-year-old Bergwijn, despite Conte’s comments after the dramatic win.
Spurs manager Conte said: “He is an important player because he has the characteristics that we have in our squad. . . We don’t have many creative players.
“He is very good in one v one, good at beating the man.
“He can play striker, he can play number 10 and for us, for me, he is an important player and we have to try to improve, become stronger, no to lose a player and become less powerful.”
“Steven is a player, if he is in good shape and in good fitness, he can start the game or he can come on and change the game.

“You know the player has to be happy and I think the player is happy to stay and play for Tottenham.”
Bergwijn, who scored twice in 80 seconds against Leicester, said: “It is a boy’s dream to turn a game like this around. I’m happy.
“It’s a big win and we have a lot of games on our hands, so we have to work hard and watch one game at a time.”
