Toffees open talks to sign Marko Arnautovic from Bologna
Italian outlet TMW claim Everton started talks this month to sign Bologna forward Marko Arnautovic after the Austrian star nearly joined Manchester United in the summer – only for Erik ten Hag’s side to pull out of a transfer.
Arnautovic, 33, returned to European football from China in the summer of 2021. He joined Serie A club Bologna and has been incredible ever since. In 50 appearances for Bologna, he has almost scored every two games.
This is in a team that currently sits in 11th place and finished 13th last season. Sky Sports report that Manchester United almost signed the 106-cap international for £7.6million in the summer. But backlash from fans prevented a transfer.
He has stayed at Bologna and has scored eight goals in 14 Serie A games. Everton have opened talks to bring the veteran striker to Goodison Park this month. It’s unclear if it’s a first loan or a permanent deal for Arnautovic.

Neal Maupay has been struggling since joining from Brighton. A bit of experience in the last third, a bit of poison – a player similar to Richarlison – would be ideal. Arnautovic is exactly that. He can do a bit of everything in attack.
In terms of position – forward, both crosses, as a 10. But he’s also good with the ball on foot, in the air, cutting inwards, holding the ball up and even on set pieces. He has a contract with Bologna until the summer of June 2025.
