And the England international has again hinted his future could lie outside the club after admitting he sees himself as one of the best players in the world.

When asked about his desire to win trophies and play in the Champions League, Rice said: “It’s as urgent as it can be. I have the feeling, not only for me, this also applies to every young player.

“I see friends who are close to me, big players winning big trophies. You want to be a part of it. You want to be remembered in this career for what you have won.

“I feel like one of the established top players around the world. I’m only 23 years old. But in terms of my playing strength and consistent performance, I now see myself as an established player who has good experience and can play at any level if needed.

“We’re very close to West Ham at the moment and last season it was a shame to lose them but we’re pushing.”
