Today’s Memphis Explosion – One person hospitalized following PMC Biogenix fire in Tennessee as firefighters battle chemical blaze

One person is believed to be injured and hospitalized following a warehouse fire in Memphis, firefighters said.
According to reports, the Memphis Fire Department responded to an explosion Tuesday shortly after 3:30 p.m. at the PMC Biogenix warehouse on Pope Street.
The warehouse fire was the result of a chemical explosion.
Lieutenant Hunter Smith told Commercial appeal that the explosion at the plant was likely caused by a processed fatty acid.
The MFD has been told by the company that the chemical in question will become less volatile as it cools.
Smith said there was no need to evacuate the vicinity.
The Memphis Fire Department said there was no environmental damage that required an evacuation.
Firefighters are currently on the scene at 1231 Pope Street.
Smoke is visible miles away, from Downtown Memphis.
The Memphis Police Department is said to have cordoned off Warford Street shortly after 5pm.
According to their website, PMC BioGenix creates specialty chemicals from renewable resources.
