Tired Chernobyl staff STOP safety repairs ‘after Russian invaders forced them to work non-stop for weeks’

CHERNOBYL employees are too tired to carry out safe repairs at the Russian-occupied nuclear site, Ukraine warns.
Staff members have been forced to work non-stop and without relief since Putin’s troops seized the site last month, it added.
“The Ukrainian regulator has informed the IAEA that personnel at Chernobyl are no longer carrying out repairs and maintenance of safety-related equipment,” the International Atomic Energy Agency said.
“It’s partly due to their physical and psychological fatigue after working non-stop for almost three weeks.”
It added that 211 technical personnel and guards had not been able to rotate out of the facility since the day before Russian troops entered.
General Director Grossi considered that the situation facing personnel was increasingly serious and expressed concern about safety and security.

A proposed framework discussed with Ukraine and Russia would allow the IAEA to provide technical and other assistance to nuclear facilities.
He added: “We cannot afford to lose any more time. The IAEA stands ready to act immediately, based on our proposed framework.
“We can only provide support for Ukraine’s nuclear sites once it has been signed. I’m doing everything I can to make this happen soon.”
Earlier this week Ukraine lost all contact with the old nuclear power plant at Chernobyl.
There are concerns that there are only hours left to restore power to the site because the backup diesel generators only have enough fuel to power the site for two days.
It was also warned that Europe could be affected by a serious radioactive leak from the Chernobyl nuclear site after Russian soldiers cut off the power.
It comes after the warning system at Europe’s largest nuclear power plant failed
The UN IAEA says it is concerned about a Sudden interruption of data streams to its headquarters.
And last month, radiation broke through when Putin’s army took over the site.
Ukraine’s State Nuclear Regulatory Authority has blamed the spike on “disturbation” caused by overrun Russian forces.
