Thousands to get $1,200 in direct pay in weeks – check if you’re eligible for the tax refund

THOUSANDS of Americans in Hawaii are expected to receive a one-off $1,200 tax refund in weeks.

Gov. David Ige signed the measure on June 23 and the payments are expected to be processed by the end of August.

Single taxpayers who earned less than $100,000 in 2021 and couples earning less than $200,000 will receive a $300 tax exemption.

This means a family of four could receive a payment of $1,200.

And taxpayers who make more than $100,000 will get a $100 refund, reports Hawaii News Now.

Sylvia Luke, who is running for lieutenant governor, said, “I’m sure, especially for these hard-working families, that the $300 for each exemption will go straight back into the economy to empower other families as well.”

Ige said, “At the start of the 2022 legislature, we made a commitment to support programs and policies that would help our residents get back on their feet.”

The governor also signed legislation raising the state minimum wage from $10.10 to $12.00.

This change goes into effect on October 1st and increases by $2 per hour to $14 per hour on January 1st, 2024.

He said the wage increases would benefit nearly 200,000 workers in the state and help families pay for housing, food and health care.

And $300 million has been set aside for government employees’ pensions.

Residents in states across the country will receive a cash boost in the coming weeks and months.

Single parents who earn less than $75,000 and filed their New Mexico 2021 income tax returns will receive a $250 payment next month.

Married couples who file joint tax returns and have income less than $150,000 will receive a $500 refundable income tax refund.

And 550,000 taxpayers will get at least $250 in August.

More than 850,000 Americans in Maine will receive an $850 payment by the end of this year.

The first batch of checks was sent this month and they are being delivered on an ongoing basis.

That means a total of more than $729 million will flow back to taxpayers.

And Colorado taxpayers must file their state tax returns by tomorrow — June 30 — to qualify for a $750 payment.
