Tuchel’s damn assessment of Chelsea’s draw against Zenit

Bayern Munich striker Thomas Muller has delivered a damning verdict for Barcelona after the Catalan team was eliminated from the Champions League.

Wednesday night three goals conceded against champions Germany decided Barca’s fate in the fray, alongside Benfica – who qualified in second place – beating Dynamo Kiev in Lisbon.

Barca coach Xavi Hernandez gave a angry post-match interview in which he blasted his team’s performance and called their Europa League home to their new ‘reality’.

The Catalan giants failed to reach the knockout round of Champions League for the first time since the 2000/01 campaign after failing to make progress in their group.

However, Wednesday night’s heavy defeat was the third time in the group they have been beaten by three or more goals – continuing the club’s long-term trend in the league.

Bayern’s Thomas Muller explains Barcelona’s main weakness

Since February 2017, the Blaugrana have lost 10 matches by 3 or more goals – including against Paris Saint-Germain (2 times), Juventus (twice), Rome, Liverpool, Benfica and three meetings with Bayern.

The match took place last year, when the German club beat Barca 8-2 in the quarter-finals of the Champions League – continuing their dominance in the game.

Experienced Bayern striker Muller – who scored his eighth goal against the Catalans in seven games to open the scoring on Wednesday night – has now explained the one-sided nature of the fixture.

Thomas Muller knocked out Barcelona again on Wednesday

The 32-year-old explained that Barca have players with tactics and technique on par with the Bavarians, but there is an important difference between their playing styles.

Muller told DAZN after Wednesday’s game: “I think Barça can’t cope with the intensity.

“Technically, they have it all, they are great players tactically and technically.

“But they can’t cope with the intensity in top-flight football.”

Barca have only scored twice in six Champions League group stage games and failed to score in four group stage games against Bayern or Benfica.

They failed to score a shot on target in their opening-day three-goal loss to Bayern at Camp Nou before their side saw them go to a three-goal defeat in Lisbon to Benfica.

The Catalan giants will compete in the Europa League for the first time in more than two decades as Bayern advance to the knockout stages of the Champions League, where they will be among the favorites of this campaign.
