In the pilot episode, there are two surprising similarities between Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) and his youngest son, Jamie. The first similarity is that the two are romantically involved. The second thing, unfortunately, is that neither of them work.
Jamie’s fiancé leaves him because his work is more than she can handle. However, his father’s relationship ended due to betrayal.
Similar to Jamie, Frank’s relationship is an on-screen storyline, although the latter sees his love life come to a halt for the duration of one episode. In the pilot, Frank’s girlfriend, Kelly Davidson (Andrea Roth), was a reporter who used him to lead big stories. Frank is dragged away in the episode, and Kelly assembles her news team, arriving at the crime scene in front of the police. After that, Frank understandably ended the relationship.
Frank is very tight-lipped about his personal life, trying to keep his relationships (a few have) a secret even with his family. After Kelly’s actions in the pilot episode, it’s not hard to see why.
