Despite 12 goals and 13 assists in 17 games in all competitions this season, Messi is said to be considering a move to the United States.

Inter are ‘increasingly confident’ of signing Messi after the World Cup.

Jorge and Jose Mas – the brothers who also own the MLS club alongside Beckham – are leading negotiations with the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner.

But Beckham initially waived his desire to sign Messi after the launch of his MLS franchise.

He teased, “Well you know what, we have great opportunities in Miami.

“We have been contacted by many different players who might want to join the team.

“Like any owner, you really want the best players and when we have the opportunity to sign players like Cristiano or Leo…

“I have such admiration for them as athletes if we could then bring those players to great use.”

Golden Balls continued: “[Messi] as a player alone in his class, there can be no other like him.

“He and Cristiano Ronaldo, who is not at his level, are both above the other.”
