His new team trailed Iwaki FC by 21 points in the Japanese 4th division last season.

Now, they hope that veteran coach Miura can help them take the lead after having the service of the old man.

Miura has moved on loan from Yokohama, where he has played since 2005.

The original icon shot to stardom in the early ’90s when he beat England legend Gary Lineker, who played for Grampus Eight, to win the J-League most valuable player award.

Miura made her senior debut in 1986 when Margaret Thatcher was still Prime Minister.

He started his career in Brazil at Santos, Palmeiras, Matsubara, CRB, Coritiba and Santos before moving to his homeland with Verdy Kawasaki.

The striker scored 117 goals in 192 appearances for Kawasaki and was named Asia’s Player of the Year in 1992 – beating LINEker to win the award.

That led to a move to Europe with Italy’s Genoa, followed by a move to Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia until his return to Japan in 1999 with Kyoto Sanga.

5 years with Vissel Kobe after that move to Yokohama.

Despite appearing for only one minute last season before Yokohama’s relegation, he made history by coming on as a substitute against the Urawa Reds in March.

54 years and 12 days, enough to make him the oldest active player in the world.

King Kazu is currently gearing up for his 37th season of professional football – and he plan to continue until he turns 60.
