The world could “run out of food in the next 27 years” due to overpopulation, naysayers claim

THE world could run out of food in just over 27 years, a sociobiologist has claimed.

To be precise, as of April 24, we have exactly 27 years and 251 days left under the doomsday scenario, if the calculations are correct.

Former Harvard professor Edward Wilson, who died in December 2021, previously said we would need two planets to meet current needs, according to The World Counts.

He said, “The constraints of the biosphere are set.”

“If everyone agreed to go vegetarian,” added Prof. Wilson, “the current 1.4 billion hectares (3.5 billion acres) of farmland would feed about 10 billion people with little or nothing left for raising livestock would let.”

Ultimately, the world population would be too large to feed itself.

The figures were elaborated by examining the Earth’s time frame by comparing the current rate of “over” food consumption to the growing population and the number of births year-on-year.

If the calculations are correct, we will have to produce more food in the next 40 years than in the last 8,000 years.

Using the diet of the average American, the website calculated that the world could only feed 2.5 billion people.

If people didn’t eat meat, we could feed a much larger population because it takes more energy to produce meat than any other food.

Meat requires 75 times more energy to produce than corn, the website says.

In turn, increasing population and human consumption are putting pressure on “nature’s ability to regenerate throughout the biosphere,” according to the website.

“We are exploiting the Earth’s ecosystems beyond their limits, producing more waste than the planet can absorb.”

The view that a serious food crisis is looming is also supported by other scientists.

In his 2010 book The Coming Famine: The Global Food Crisis and What We Can Do to Avoid It, Professor Julian Cribb warns that the problem is “even coming.” faster than climate change”.

According to Professor Cribb, scarcity of water, land and energy, combined with increased demand from population and economic growth, will lead to global food shortages by 2050.

Due to the upcoming food crisis, food prices will explode in the coming years.

By 2030, the price of corn could increase by 180 percent, while the price of rice could increase by 130 percent.

Food shortages could also lead to conflict and mass migration and even war if there are disputes over access to food and water.

“The next world wars could be fought over resources like food and water,” West Virginia University professor Usha Haley is quoted as saying.

Jason Clay, senior vice president of the World Wildlife Fund, warned in 2013: “To meet the increasing needs of a growing population, we need to produce more food in the next 40 years than we did in the previous 8,000 years.”
