The Witcher’s Witcher Part 2 Explained

In the original “Witcher” books, the only time readers are introduced to Zeugl is in “Sword of Destiny”, in which Geralt is hired to kill a man living in the sewers beneath Aedd Gynvael. However, the monster featured in the first “Witcher” video game as part of a boss battle set in the Vizima sewers (via Witcher Wiki). In both cases, Zeugl attacks primarily with its tentacles, hiding the rest of its body underwater, akin to how it works in Season 2 of Netflix’s “The Witcher.”

The scene in season 2 of “Witcher” shows Yennefer and Cahir trying to escape the city of Oxenfurt through the sewers, which leads them right to Zeugl’s path. In this scene, the viewer is only shown Zeugl’s tentacles as they swarm around and drag Yennefer under the water. If the creature protruded its ugly head above the surface, viewers would likely see that it had a giant, peculiar ape with rows of teeth and large, fish-like eyes. That assumes, of course, that it looks like it does in the “Witcher” games and novels.

In “The Witcher” Season 2, the monster devours one of Yennefer’s companions and tries to do the same to her, but a well-placed torch causes Zeugl to swim into the dark. Again. It was a brief, ferocious attack that had serious consequences for Yennefer and her party. More importantly, it reminds viewers of how many stinky monsters lurk in the world of “The Witcher”.
