The Weeknd surpassed 500 million streams on Spotify on January 15.

Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, better known as Weekend, has secured the title of most streamed artist on Spotify just two weeks into the new year.

On January 15, The Weeknd surpassed 500 million streams on Spotify. He’s the first musician to hit the milestone this year, due in part to his latest album, Dawn FM. The album debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200 with equivalent album sales of 154k in its first week of release.

The album also peaked at number one on the UK Music Charts with over 20,000 copies sold on the chart, making it Abel’s third number one on the chart. With no physical versions available, streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music accounted for all album sales in its first week of release.

Dawn FM, The Weeknd’s fifth studio album, was released on January 7, 2022, by XO and Republic Records. It features Jim Carrey, Tyler the Creator and Lil Wayne as guest vocalists, along with Quincy Jones and Josh Safdie as speech artists.

Abel describes the album’s concept as a trip to “the light at the end of the tunnel”. It serves as a sequel to his fourth studio album After many hours (In 2020). Dawn FM is a sublimated record with dance-pop and synth-pop tracks largely influenced by new dance, funk and electronic styles from the 1980s. Music critics praised the theme, sound and music. bar and trippy tunes of the album.

The singer plans to continue After hours until dawn The Stadium Tour, in summer 2022, will cover North America, Europe, South America, Asia, Australia, Africa and the Middle East. The tour will include both Dawn FM and After many hours album.

The tour was originally supposed to start in June 2020 in Vancouver and end on November 16, 2020 in London. However, all originally scheduled dates have been postponed due to concerns about pandemic limits and the ongoing COVID-19 arena, and the event will now take place in the summer of 2022.
