The US Tower is the “most phallic building in the world” – and the conspiracy claims it will “fall only if a virgin graduates”.

A NEARLY 150-foot water tower has been called America’s most phallic building.
The structure, which towers over Ypsilanti, Michigan, received the title after winning a competition organized by Cabinet Magazine.

It’s one of the most notable spots in the city of about 20,000 people, so students at nearby Eastern Michigan University have created a myth about it, the Daily Star reported.
But the building, which locals affectionately call “Brick Dick,” isn’t likely to come down any time soon as it’s a protected historic site.
The Queen Anne-style tower was designed by architect William Coats in 1889, Atlas Obscura reported.
Construction was completed the next year.

When building the tower, construction workers carved four crosses into the masonry.
They are difficult to see from the ground, but still visible.
Until then, Ypsilanti had no running water.
It was the only water tower in the city’s system until 1956, the Ypsilanti Community Utilities Authority reported.
In front of the tower is a statue honoring the city’s namesake, Demetrios Ypsilantis, an important figure in the Greek War of Independence.
When the city was founded in 1835, the Greeks were fighting the Ottoman Empire for their autonomy.
But now its historical significance has all but been forgotten in modern times as it has become an inside joke among residents.
There’s even a local legend that if a certain requirement is met, the tower becomes doomed.
The tower will fall if ever a maiden graduates from school, legend says.
