The truly oldest dog in the world sets a new Guinness World Record after reaching the landmark age of 30

A FARM dog has set a new Guinness World Record as the oldest pooch by living to the age of 30 – the equivalent of 210 in humans.

Bobi breaks a record held by Australian cattle dog Bluey, who died in 1939 aged 29 years and five months.

He also holds the record for oldest living dog – after being held for just two weeks by 23-year-old Ohio Chihuahua Spike.

Bobi, a Portuguese Mastiff, was born on May 11, 1992.

Owner Leonel Costa called him “unique”.

Leonel, 38, from Conqueiros, Portugal said: “Bobi has been a warrior all these years. Only he knows how he held up. It doesn’t have to be easy.”

A dog’s age is multiplied by seven to find its approximate equivalent in human years.

Leonel explained: “I was eight years old. My father was a hunter and we always had a lot of dogs.”

“Unfortunately, at the time, for older people who couldn’t have more animals at home, it was considered normal to bury the animals in a hole so they wouldn’t survive.”

Little Bobi was able to escape and was raised by Leonel and his brothers.

He said: “We knew that once the dog opened his eyes, my parents wouldn’t bury him anymore. It was common knowledge that this act could not or should not be carried out.”

“I’ll admit that if she [his parents] found out we already knew, they screamed and punished us a lot, but it was worth it and for good reason!”

Having problems with his eyesight and some walking issues at his age, Bobi had a health scare in 2018 but pulled through.

His age was verified by a pet database authorized by the Portuguese government and on February 1st he received his Guinness World Record.
