SHOCKING scenes unfolded in France when TEAR GAS spilled onto the pitch during a Ligue 1 match.
The clash between Toulouse and Montpellier was overshadowed when fans, believed to be away, fired tear gas at the pitch in the second half.
The gas didn’t let the players breathe and scratched their eyes as the ugly scenes played out around the 57th minute.
Play was suspended until the gas was extinguished, causing a 15-minute delay in proceedings.
Hosts Toulouse won 4-1 back then.
And after the restart, Montpellier managed to close the gap by a goal, while Toulouse sent off Mikkel Desler for a second bookable offence.
Events in France follow a tragic incident in Indonesia on Saturday.
At least 125 people were killed in riots after a match between Arema FC and derby rivals Persebaya Surabaya at Kanjuruhan Stadium.
A field invasion ensued after the game, with riot police using batons and tear gas to try to regain control.
Harrowing footage showed runaway bystanders climbing over fences as they tried to escape the smoke.
Reacting to the tragic events, FIFA President Gianni Infantino said: “This is a dark day for everyone involved in football and a tragedy beyond imagination.
“I offer my deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims who lost their lives following this tragic incident.”
