The third case in the UK is confirmed to be wearing a mask to return to schools, transport and shops in the UK on Tuesday

Explain: What is a Plan B Covid in the UK?

The government has laid out plans to tackle Covid during the fall and winter.

This includes the preferred Plan A, which will be followed if infections remain manageable and the NHS is not overwhelmed, and Plan B, if the health service begins to run into trouble.

Plan A focuses on continued vaccine deployment.

This means offering it to healthy 12 to 15 year olds, encouraging those who have not yet progressed to do so, and moving forward with a booster program for those most at risk.

It will also encourage Britons to take a free flu shot, as well as get regular check-ups, self-isolate when necessary, and an NHS Covid Pass to check vaccination status or get tested.

On the other hand, plan B would mean return measures seen in the UK’s various lockdowns.

This could include making face coverings and passports mandatory in certain locations, returning to work from home, and generally urging the public to behave more cautiously.

It was stated that some parts of the UK will see the Plan Abandon measures over the next few days as coronavirus infections continue to rise.
