The internet was shocked by the close relationship between First Lady Jill Biden and Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff just before the State of the Union address.

When Jill received a standing ovation from the House Chambers, she joined Vice President Kamala Harris’ husband in supporting him.

Emhoff took the first lady’s hand before the two shared a quick kiss on the lips.

The brief interaction immediately took social media by storm, with users expressing shock.

“WHAT THE HELL EXACTLY?” wrote one person.

“Why did Jill Biden and Kamala’s husband just kiss on the lips?!?!?!?!?” another person wrote.

A third wrote: “Didn’t see that coming.”

Emhoff previously worked as an entertainment attorney before Joe Biden won the presidency, leading to Emhoff making history as America’s first “second gentleman.”

Emhoff and Harris were married on August 22, 2014 in a Santa Barbara courthouse.

According to the Sacramento Bee, Harris’ sister Maya officiated at the wedding, which came after the couple’s five-month engagement.

The couple wrote their own vows, and to recognize Emhoff’s Jewish faith, the two honored a glass-breaking tradition.
