The six stimulus checks and direct payments, worth up to $1,700, will go to millions of Americans this month

MILLIONS of Americans can expect to see paper checks in their mailboxes this month.

Most payments come in the form of tax refunds aimed at offsetting high inflation, which is negatively impacting Americans from the food to gas industries.

And the others serve as stimulus checks given to those who have been left in financial distress by the pandemic.

But regardless, these will all be one-off payments.

Check out the states and cities sending money in July.

1. Chicago, Illinois – up to $150

Eligible residents of Chicago, Illinois can apply for transit and fuel card money each month.

The five cities are offering up to $1,000 worth of monthly payments

To apply, you must be a Chicago resident, be at least 18 years old, and have a current and valid city sticker with the correct shipping information for your vehicle.

Also, your income must be equal to or less than 100% of the Chicago area median income.

That’s $93,200 for a four-person household.

Every month through September, a lottery is held during the second week of the month.

Registration deadline for the next lottery is Friday July 1st.

Those selected will be notified by email.

Chicago will issue up to 50,000 $150 prepaid fuel cards and 100,000 $50 prepaid transit cards as part of the program.

Cards are distributed every month.

You can apply online, at any public library in Chicago, or by mail.

2. Indiana – up to $250

Millions in the state of Indiana started receiving their rebate payments in May.

Refunds are $125 per person and $250 for married couples.

About 4.3 million Hoosiers will receive the $125 payment, about 85% of the state’s adult population.

Direct deposits will be made throughout the summer, while residents who have opted for a paper check can expect them to arrive in July or August.

Any taxpayer who filed their 2020 taxes before January 3, 2022 qualifies for the money.

In addition, Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb has proposed returning more money to taxpayers.

If approved, each eligible Indiana resident would receive payments totaling about $350, according to the governor’s office.

Married couples applying together would receive approximately $700.

3. Iowa – $1,400

Thousands of low- and middle-income residents in Johnson County, Iowa, have applied for a one-time $1,400 stimulus check under the Direct Assistance Program, the Press-Citizen reports.

To qualify, you must meet a few criteria.

These include suffering from food or housing insecurity, losing a job, or being previously excluded from government stimulus payments.

You may also qualify if you are eligible for a federal program such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or Supplemental Security Income.

As for income, it can be $45,370 or less for a one-person household, $51,870 for a two-person household, and $64,805 for a four-person household.

According to the county’s Board of Supervisors (BOS), between 2,300 and 2,400 residents are set to receive $1,400 in stimulus payments, which should reach recipients in late June or July.

The city stopped accepting applications as of Friday, May 27.

4. Maine – up to $1,700

This month, Maine sent out rebate checks worth $850 per person and $1,700 for the average family.

Up to 200,000 rebate checks were sent almost every week in June.

That would mean that most of the payments would be made by the end of last month.

However, it will take some time before they reach mailboxes.

Gov. Janet Mill’s office said those who filed state taxes in 2021 can expect their money to arrive by mid-July.

To qualify for a rebate check, you must meet a few requirements.

In terms of income, an individual cannot exceed $100,000, while heads of household and couples can earn up to $150,000 and $200,000 respectively.

These are based on tax returns for 2021 to be filed by October 31st.

5. New Mexico up to $1,000

Hundreds of thousands of New Mexicans will receive additional tax rebates of up to $500.

This year, New Mexico has two statewide rebate programs.

The first of these was launched for taxpayers in June and was valued at up to $1,000.

However, there were no restrictions for this round.

This time, eligibility varies by income.

Residents who filed income taxes in 2021 as an individual filer and earned less than $75,000 will receive payments of $250.

Joint applicants who earned less than $150,000 will receive $500.

Payments begin the week of July 3, but since Monday the 4th is a federal holiday, the first payments could be processed on July 5, a spokesman for the New Mexico Board of Revenue and Revenue told a local news outlet KRQE.

Also, the state said it would pay out all $1,000 in aid payments no later than July 3 — meaning more payments may be on the way.

While applications closed in June, you could still make claims by filing taxes in 2021.

While approximately 33,544 residents qualify for the relief payments, they cannot claim if they have received or have received a relief payment from their 2021 income tax filing.

6. Oregon—$600

Oregon is mailing $600 worth of stimulus checks to more than 236,000 residents.

The payments will go to low-income workers who have worked during the pandemic.

To be eligible, you must qualify and claim the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) on your 2020 tax return.

The filing deadline was December 31, 2021, or April 15 for an amended statement, according to the Treasury Department.

In 2020, the Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) of a single person or head of household with no children must not have exceeded $15,820 for the EITC.

According to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), that number was $21,710 for married couples.

If you have children, the following income limits apply:

  • Singles with one child: $41,756
  • Married couples with one child: $47,646
  • Singles with two children: $47,440
  • Married couples with two children: $53,330
  • Singles with three children: $50,594
  • Married, three children: $56,844

In addition, you must have lived in Oregon for the past six months to be eligible for a payment.
