The ‘shrouded’ position of Nathan Millard’s body sparks difficulties in finding the truth about father-of-five’s death, expert says

THE location where a missing father’s body was found can make it difficult to discover the truth behind his death, a forensic expert has revealed.
Nathan Millard, a 42-year-old construction manager from Georgia, was found dead March 6, wrapped in plastic and a rug.

The husband and father of five was on a brief business trip in Baton Rouge, Louisiana when he disappeared on February 22.
Millard was last sighted that evening at Happy’s Irish Pub, about three miles from the vacant lot where his body was discovered over a week later.
His body was found by a passerby who called 911 after “smelling a foul odor” in the area.
An autopsy confirmed that Millard had “no evidence of internal or external trauma” after his death.

And police believe there was no foul play involved in the Millard case.
However, a final autopsy report is still pending to obtain a toxicology result.
Joseph Scott Morgan, a respected applied forensics scholar at Jacksonville State University, exclusively told The US Sun that the location where Millard was found and the time he may have been there impacted his autopsy become.
“Remember, he was wrapped in plastic, he was wrapped in carpet,” said Morgan, who also hosts the true crime podcast Body Bags.
“What’s happening especially in southern Louisiana… that environment down there is particularly harsh.
“Things decompose a little faster than in other places,” he explained.
Morgan said that the “cocooned” position of Millard’s body can affect the decomposition process.
“The fact that his body is so encased is significant, because that envelopment and the heat that comes with it can somehow speed up the decomposition process,” he said.
Referring to the toxicology report, Morgan said the number of days Millard was absent “will affect how long it lasts [report] come back because it is in an early stage of decomposition.
“It might complicate things a bit if you send in the tox samples for analysis,” he said.
PERSON OF INTEREST
Police arrested a person interested in Millard’s disappearance and death Monday night.
Derrick Perkins, 45, was arrested in Baton Rouge nearly a week after police released a photo of the suspect they wanted to speak to about Millard’s case.
While it’s still unclear who might have wrapped Millard’s body, Morgan said there was “a level of respect” indeed.
He said that “there is a certain level of respect and commemoration that goes on [Millard’s] Body.”
Morgan believes Millard’s death was not related to an act of violence.
“If this was something related to an act of anger and hostility towards a person, they would take the body, drive down the street and just throw that body away like it was something less than human,” Morgan explained.
He added, “But with that you have someone who really took their time to get a piece of plastic and wrap the body.”
FATHER DISAPPEARS
Millard was last seen on February 22 after attending a Louisiana State University basketball game and Happy’s Irish Pub downtown with a customer.
While searching for her husband, Millard’s wife, Amber, recalled how Millard FaceTimed her with the seats he and his client had booked for the game.
“It wasn’t something I ever thought would be my last call,” Amber told WXIA.
He was seen leaving the bar around 11:30 p.m. that evening and was arrested by surveillance while walking to the Courtyard Marriott Hotel where he was staying, about a two-minute walk away.
His client alerted Millard after they were due to meet at a construction site at 8 a.m. the next morning.

At 9 a.m. local time, there was still no sign of Millard and the client decided to go to the hotel and request a wellness check, his wife Amber told WXIA.
