A second person suffered non-gunshot injuries.

The victim is in critical condition, reports NBC.

Washington DC police and homicide detectives respond to the scene.

The Washington DC Fire and EMS are also on site.

The Metropolitan Police Department confirmed to NBC that an officer from another agency was involved in the shooting.

A witness who was reportedly on a train at the time of the incident hailed the conductor as a hero.

“God bless the woman who screamed, ‘Everyone down, down!’ so everyone drove onto the deck in my @wmata wagon; god bless the conductor who let our train pass those running for their lives and lord please protected all lives at DC’s Metro Center,” Twitter -user Rebekah divided.

Another witness tweeted: “I was on the red line train when it entered the subway. We heard shots and everyone on the train hit the ground and the train didn’t stop but kept going. Everyone in our car was fine.”

As a result of the incident, Red Line trains are single track between Judiciary Square and Farragut North.
