TWO police officers have been dismissed from duty after a social media picture was posted online – can you tell why?

New South Wales Police have confirmed the two police officers have been detached and an internal investigation has been launched after an image was published on the BeReal website.

The picture appears to show a police officer pointing his gun at another police officer at what is believed to be a Sydney police station.

While the other cop looks like he’s aiming his gun at his own head.

A spokeswoman for NSW Police said: “The officers have been identified and their firearms seized.

“Both officers, attached to a police area command in the Southwest metropolitan area, have been assigned administrative duties.”

The new social media app allows users to share a spontaneous snapshot of their lives with friends on a daily basis.

Although it’s unclear if the officer’s settings were set to private or public, the image has been shared on social media.

The NSW Police social media policy states that staff must not post anything that “may bring NSW Police into disrepute or otherwise embarrass the Authority”.

NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb condemned the post, saying she was “absolutely disgusted” by the behaviour.

She told The Sydney Morning Herald: “We will take appropriate action at the earliest opportunity.”

The BeReal post also caught the attention of radio host Mark Levy, who drew attention to it during his 2GB show Tuesday morning and brought up the two Queensland police officers who died during last Monday’s Wieambilla siege.

Levy told his listeners: “The photo that was posted on social media has to be taken very, very seriously.

“I hope that senior police officers will put these two people together and remind them of what happened in Queensland.

“We mourn the loss of two police officers who searched for a missing person.

“That’s not funny.”
