DISNEY theme parks are known for their fun, family-friendly rides and attractions.
But that philosophy has changed with one particular attraction at Disney World – which is so creepy that it closed for good less than 10 years after it opened.
ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter has opened in Magic Kingdom and offers a chilling experience that will terrify those brave enough to participate.
The attraction, which opened in 1995, is a theater within and takes place across three zones.
The story begins with an alien corporation named XS-Tech introducing its brand new teleportation technology to the audience.
A robot then demonstrated the teleportation device by moving a small alien across the room.
Finally, while the guests were sitting in their chairs, the teleportation technology malfunctioned and a giant carnivorous alien creature with wings emerged from the tube.
Then the lights go out and the audience can feel the alien’s ‘breath’ on the nape of their neck and drool coming out of its mouth.
The attraction is Disney’s first foray into a fully immersive, creepy attraction.
It has been met with controversy, with guests frequently complaining that it is too scary and doesn’t match the rest of the games in the Magic Kingdom.
Children under 12 are not encouraged to visit, prompting parental complaints.
During the show, guests would scream so much that they would miss important dialogue and plot points, making it impossible for them to understand what was going on.
The tour ended in 2003 and was replaced by a new attraction based on Lilo & Stitch.
Previous guests have shared on Reddit how they left scars from riding.
One person wrote: “I was so young when I went on this ride and I swear it was the scariest ride I’ve ever been on. I REDUCED to go on Stitch because I’m still scared of the alien version pure.”
Another added: “My dad who had to carry me on this bus was sobbing when I was a kid.”
Another concurred: “All I remember is I closed my eyes and buried my head in my mother’s lap and sobbed the whole time. I still have nightmares about that trip.”
If you’re still in the mood for fear, watch the supposed footage The Phantom of Walt Disney walk Disneyland at night.
And see inside the horror abandoned Disney attractions left to rot for decades.
