The real reason Nicholas Gonzalez left the good doctor

The final season of season 3 of “The Good Doctor”, titled “”I Love You”, saw Nicholas Gonzalez’s doctor Neil Melendez die of severe internal bleeding. Lim (Christina Chang), but also admits to her feelings for Dr. Claire Browne (Antonia Thomas), who reveals in the same scene that she loves him too. “Good Doctor” is everywhere.

In a March 2020 interview with Limit line, David Shore, author of “The Good Doctor” commented on Neil’s death during the Season 3 finale, saying, “Nick is so awesome, but you want to go where the story takes you.” The writer added that “none of that is personal,” noting that Gonzalez is “awesome.” Ultimately, Shore said the decision to kill Neil came from the show’s writers wanting to “confront death” in the series. Shore revealed, “We wanted to lose a character that we would feel something and feel pain in, and he is certainly a character that a lot of them have come into contact with. “This is the nature of these types of shows, I believe, you go forward, and people come and go.”

Of course, Gonzalez’s time on “The Good Doctor” didn’t quite end in the show’s Season 3 finale. The actor actually reprized his role in two episodes of “The Good Doctor” Season 4 (via IMDb), however, his reappearance certainly doesn’t lessen the impact of his death in any way.
