The Real Reason Kevin Smith Says He’ll Never Direct An MCU Movie

In the past, Smith said that if he directs an MCU movie, it will take him out of the field is a fan of the saga, and he simply doesn’t want to risk that. More importantly, Smith told Looper in a exclusive interview for the new documentary, “Clerk,” which he simply doesn’t think he’s capable of handling the scale of an MCU movie.
Smith humbly said: “I’m not talented enough to do those things. You watch those movies. You have to have the vision to do it.” “And yes, I know it’s a team, and they have… I’ve seen behind the Marvel curtain the method of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And I understand that it takes a village and a group of people, but I will be the weakest link in that village.”
As a result, Smith said he’s satisfied with remaining a consumer of Marvel products and nothing more.
“I love those movies to death, but I’ve never sat there saying like ‘Wow, this is what I would do differently’ or ‘Oh, I wish I could do this.’ I’ve always liked to say that cooks have to eat, too. And I’m used to preparing meals for people,” Smith observed. “And of course, they’re not maintenance meals, and they’re not fancy meals, but I know how to cook. I need to eat, too. And that’s what I eat. I consume these. That thing. And weirdly, I don’t export it. It’s not like I watch a Marvel movie and say, ‘I want to make a Marvel movie.'”
