The Queen Confirms Camilla Is Called Queen Consort As She Celebrates Platinum Jubilee Today

How Camilla went from marriage saboteur to our future Queen

Here is a piece of commentary by Ingrid Seward

The Queen’s touching statement marks the culmination of Charles and Camilla’s extraordinary relationship.

After years of ridicule and the specter of Diana forever hanging on her shoulders, the royal couple were finally given the final seal of approval by the Queen herself.

It’s a remarkable recovery for the woman most of the public blames for the ending of a royal fairy tale. No longer the “other woman”, Camilla has cemented her place at the heart of the Royal Family.

The Queen said it was her sincere wish that when Charles becomes King “in the fullness of time”, Camilla will be called Queen Consort. “I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support you have given me,” she said, “as she (Camilla) continues her own faithful service.”

It is truly a compliment from the 95-year-old monarch and an affirmation of the friendship between two women that the world knows very little about.

Camilla was once in the royal family because her ex-husband Andrew Parker Bowles, Derek’s father, was great friends with mother of King. They regularly stayed at Birkhall, the Queen’s Scottish retreat at the time, where Camilla was considered “one of us” by the royal family.

Camilla never could have imagined that, while eating lunch in the cozy dining room, it would one day be her home in Scotland. When she married Charles in 2005she thinks she will only support the man she loves.
