Staff at the school called authorities around 10:30 a.m. Friday to report a suspicious man with a handgun attempting to enter the building, the El Mirage Police Department said.

The lockdown drew parents to the scene, although police urged them to stay away from the school until told otherwise.

Three parents got into a physical fight with officers when they tried to enter the locked elementary school, prompting officers to stun two and arrest all three, police officers told local reporters.

A parent was armed with a gun on school grounds and is now charged with gun violence. FOX10 reported.

Another was taken away on a stretcher after being injured by the taser.

Aerial photos had shown people outside the Arizona school and several police cars on site.

When police arrived at the scene, the suspect fled and police were unable to locate him after hearing conflicting testimonies about where the man was headed.

When police checked the hallways, they found a suspicious package and had a technician analyze it.

Students and staff who were close to the package were also relocated. After the technician analyzed the package, the package was found to be secure.

The lockdown was soon lifted after police checked the scene.

The suspect has been arrested, El Mirage police said.

The suspect’s identity and the circumstances surrounding his arrest are currently unknown.

The Dysart Unified School District had also suspended other schools during the incident, but those have since been lifted, too.

These schools included: Dysart Middle, Dysart High, Surprise Elementary, Riverview, El Mirage, and Sundown Mountain.

According to media reports, the students were reunited with their families around 12 noon.

El Mirage Police Lieutenant Jimmy Chavez said the other two people who were arrested were also tased and the woman needed to be taken to hospital as a result, which he believes was the person on the stretcher.

Police said all students and staff are safe after the incident and the threat no longer exists.

According to the police, no injuries were reported in the incident and no shots were fired.

“These incidents developed rapidly within minutes and we applaud our staff and law enforcement for their prompt response,” the El Mirage police statement said.
