The nightmarish chaos of the blackouts stems from three decades of government complacency

Power failure
FOR years, The Sun has been warning of the nightmarish havoc blackouts could wreak on modern Britain. This terrifying prospect is becoming more and more likely.
In the 1970s, power outages turned off our lights and televisions. Today, computers and broadband rule our lives and our businesses. Without electricity, our connected nation will be virtually paralyzed.

This is of course Putin’s fault. But that’s too easy.
The failure to secure one of our most basic needs ultimately stems from three decades of disastrous complacency by successive governments.
That means Labour, which has done nothing for energy security for 13 years.
The Lib Dems, idiotically wedded to the impossible fantasy of powering Britain alone with wind and sun, and sickeningly proud of blocking alternatives.

And the Tories, who were similarly cocky about supplies from Russia, even when it was clear that Putin was a monster capable of unleashing chaos.
Our power plants are not dependent on its gas. But other nations in Europe are doing it and are now competing with us for competing supplies. A shortage is imminent.
Add to this a potentially cold but calm winter, with huge power demands but too little wind for our turbines, and we could run out.
What a corrective for those who believe a pure wind and solar grid is feasible. We will always need nuclear power, and for now gas and even coal.
We must learn this lesson quickly. We must confront the NIMBYs and delusional, face-taping eco-idiots. We need to research fracking, build nuclear power plants and produce a lot more North Sea gas.
Even as we dodge power outages, we must quickly become energy self-sufficient to prevent Putin or some future tyrant from successfully plunging us into darkness.

WE wish Putin a most unhappy 70th birthday. What a 70th year it was.
He spent it slaughtering innocent people and sacrificing hordes of his own troops as cannon fodder.

Instead of turning his country into a giant power, he made it the target of worldwide hatred and ridicule.
He caused millions of Russians to emigrate to avoid his misgovernment and conscription into his overrated, fractured army.
He became the new Hitler.
We pray that this creature doesn’t live to be 71, especially in the Kremlin.
What is the best way to ensure this? Let our arms and supplies flow to Ukraine to further her overwhelming and heroic struggle.

WHY is Liz Truss so silent on immigration?
Brexit voters, who backed the Tories in 2019, wanted control of it.

They didn’t expect legal migration to continue to increase or hundreds a day to land illegally on our beaches with impunity.
The PM seems hopeful that migrants will fill our many vacancies.
What about the five million Britons on unemployment benefits?
