‘NEVER BE A CUSTOMER’

Orr and Torres, who work with Whetstone at the Buckle mall retail store, said they were both devastated by their friend’s death.

Orr describes the 21-year-old as an animal lover who has “never met an enemy”.

“She was the most uplifting and loving and hopeful person I’ve ever met. She never spoke ill of anyone,” friend Julia Brooker told the magazine.

Whetstone is studying psychology at UNO, where she dreams of helping children through trauma therapy, according to Brooker.

Chris Ferrand, Whetstone’s stepfather, said everyone in her family is “still in shock.”

Ferrand, who lives in South Carolina with the rest of the Whetstone family, said they are holding a funeral for their daughter and are ready to bring her home.

“We have a few tough days ahead of us,” Ferrand told NOLA.

On Sunday, Berea Advent Christian Church, where Whetstone is a member of a youth group, paid tribute to the 21-year-old in a touching Facebook post.

“We are very sad [SIC] by the death of one of our young family members Ciaya (Jordan) Whetstone. Our prayers go out to her mother and family as well as to all members of the youth group who love her.

Officials said Whetstone arrived in “private transportation,” a term law enforcement uses when emergency vehicles are not in use and victims are transported by commercial motor vehicle.
