The mystery deepens in the disappearance of Michael Vaughan, 6, after cops revealed the body buried in the backyard had been dug up and moved.

The body of six-year-old Michael Vaughan was “buried in a backyard and then moved to a new location,” police have confirmed.
This discovery comes after Fruitland Police spent over a week excavating the backyard of a house where Sandra Wondra lived last year when Vaughan was reported missing.

KTVB shared a press conference with Fruitland Police Chief JD Huff where he gave the latest developments on the case.
He said K-9 dogs were alerted in the yard and that further investigation found some anomalies that led them to believe Vaughan’s body had been buried there at some point.
Huff also said more evidence was found at the home, although details have not been released to the public.
“Although the remains of Michael Vaughan were not recovered, we strongly believe based on the evidence that Michael was abducted and deceased and that his remains were buried and later removed from the property,” Huff said.

“To this day, the whereabouts of his remains are unknown.”
The house where Vaughan’s remains were buried was investigated after police received a credible lead from an unknown source.
Wondra was accused of failing to report Vaughan’s death and remains in custody.
“I see what [police] have said. It’s not correct,” Wondra said during her arraignment.
She was found mentally incompetent and then institutionalized.
Her husband, Stacey Wondra, is being held in the Washington State County Jail on unrelated charges.
Huff said two people are suspected of having knowledge of Vaughan’s kidnapping: Brandon Shurtliff and Adrien Lucienne.
These two men are believed to have been living with the Wondras at the time of Vaughan’s kidnapping.
Police have encouraged both to come forward and get in touch.
Huff said there are more people who know about Vaughan’s kidnapping and more charges to come.
“When we finally complete this investigation, and I can assure you that we will, all those who have knowledge of Michael’s disappearance and who have failed to report it or who have obstructed our investigation will be prosecuted,” said Huff.
“There is a moment to do the right thing and come up with your information and work together.”
