The sisters were killed in the first attack and their 48-year-old mother has now died in hospital.

The news was confirmed by Hadassah-University Medical Center, which said “Teams have been fighting for their lives in the emergency room, operating room and intensive care unit where she was treated over the past few days.”

The hospital said she “sadly passed away despite intense and unremitting efforts due to her fatal injury.”

Police later reported that the vehicle the British family was traveling in had been sprayed with assault rifle bullets, leaving blood splattered on the windscreen.

Rabbi Leo Dee delivered an emotional speech at his daughters’ joint funeral in the Israeli settlement of Kfar Etzion.

Rabbi Dee, who was attending university in Britain, had been driving in a separate car in front of his family, but found an altercation had erupted behind him.

He drove back to the scene of the crime, fearing his family had been involved in a traffic accident when he realized the car had come under fire.

The family is believed to have moved to Israel from London in 2005.

They settled in Efrat, near the Palestinian city of Bethlehem, but kept their strong ties to Britain.

Gunmen are believed to have targeted the car simply because it had Israeli license plates.
