MADISON, Wis.– How long has it been? Friend Step into the theater?

Nowadays, it’s easy to stay at home and watch movies on TV. But starting this month, industry experts expect that to start to change.

“I have a giant dent on my sofa,” jokes Greg Marcus, owner of the Marcus theater chain. “Who doesn’t, right?”

While 36% of families watch movies together over Christmas week in 2020, 62% plan to do so this year, according to a new survey of 2,400 moviegoers. And here’s what they were most excited to see:

  1. “Spider-Man: No Return” (63%)
  2. “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” (62%)
  3. “Matrix: Revival” (49%)
  4. “The King’s Man” (45%)
  5. “Sing 2” (43%)

In addition to newly released films, those surveyed rated their favorite holiday movies to watch on the big screen. Here are their top five:

  1. “Goblin” (57%)
  2. “Christmas Holiday in National Lampoon” (50%)
  3. “Christmas Story” (46%)
  4. “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” (46%)
  5. “It was a wonderful life” (42%)

“It’s about being in a room full of people and the energy that comes with that,” Marcus said. “Even when the theater isn’t full, and believe me, I like to see it in full. But even if it doesn’t, there’s just something about watching a movie with other people that’s going to be different. It just feels correct. ”
