This is the painful moment when a group of Russian soldiers sobbed apologizing for killing “civilians and children” in Ukraine.
The captured pilots slandered Vladimir Putin’s “dangerous invasion” during an emotional news conference on Sunday.
It is understood that seven military reconnaissance officers were shot down from Ukrainian airspace last week.
They then had the opportunity to speak to journalists at Interfax Ukraine News Agency – and apologize for their country’s actions.
One of the soldiers, Galkin Sergey Alekseevich, said: “I’m sorry for myself, because my team went from door to door, to every Ukrainian, old people, women, children because of the invasion. our strategy for these lands.
“I am deeply sorry for our dangerous invasion.
“In front of the generals of our military units, I want to say one thing – that they acted cowardly, that they acted treacherously on us.”
The 34-year-old man from Roschchinsky, Russia, kept begging Putin to “don’t send soldiers” to kill people in Ukraine.
With his comrades standing on either side with microphones in front of him, he called on his country to lay down its weapons.
“I want to say to all regiments of the Russian army – put your hands down,” Alekseevich said.
“And Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin stopped his acts of war.
“Stop bombing, stop sending soldiers here to kill civilians, to carry out air strikes.”
Desperate pleas come later The demoralized Russian soldiers last week begged to go home in blocked calls to their families, saying they were being “massacred” in Ukraine.
A concussion soldier broke down in tears as kind Ukrainians helped him call his mother.
Another said he and his teammates were like “cannon fodder” and he would “do anything to get home”.
Russian forces are also accused of shooting women and children – killing seven civilians trying to escape a village near Kyiv.
Russian-backed separatists claim to have captured the strategic city of Volnovakha, about the size of Truro in Cornwall.
Pavlo Kyrylenko, governor of the Donetsk region, said most of the civilians in Volnovakha had escaped – but the city was barely left.
“In general, Volnovakha with such infrastructure does not exist anymore,” he said.
It comes after Volodymyr Zelensky defiantly claimed Russia would only take Kyiv if Vladimir Putin’s army “razed it” as the Ukrainian capital prepared for a siege.
The battle around the capital was raging as Russian forces closed in, with brave Ukrainian soldiers trapping tanks in the streets to repel the invaders.
Putin’s the army is inching closer and is said to be only 15 miles from the city As terrified Ukrainians continued to flee their homes.
