The Mayor of Venice fumes that a ‘cretin’ tourist was filmed on his stomach falling 30 feet into a canal wearing only his pants

THE mayor of Venice has raged over a “cretin” tourist who was filmed belly-floating 30 feet down the city’s famous canals.

He said the fool was about to be “kicked on the butt” after the video surfaced on social media, sparking anger among locals.

Footage showed the tourist clad only in boxers as he stood on the ledge of the 30-foot palazzo and prepared to jump into the canal below.

Then local passers-by were heard calling him in Italian and asking him not to jump.

Ignoring her warnings, the man’s stomach dropped into the water.

He appeared to have gotten off scot-free from his daring stupidity, but when the video was posted online, the man was branded a “cretin”.

Luigi Brugnaro, the mayor of Venice, took to Twitter to criticize the foolish behavior.

He said: “We should give this person a certificate of stupidity and a good number of kicks in the butt.

“We are trying to identify and charge him along with his friend who made a video of the cretin for social media.

“These people risk their necks just for a few likes.

“They have no regard for the danger they pose…imagine a boat going under it.”

According to local media, the man was lucky not to be seriously injured as some of Venice’s canals had been drained in recent weeks.

Tourists jumping into the water from cliffs or piers are trending on the internet and are dubbed “tomb laying.”

However, the act is incredibly dangerous and can have serious consequences.

Shocking footage showed the moment a 22-year-old woman “ruptured” her spine after jumping 30ft from a bridge into a river.

Another Brit was filmed jumping into the sea while on holiday before being gunned down.
