The Matrix Resurrections: Keanu Reeves Stunt Jumps Details

Reeves and co-star Carrie-Anne Moss performed the scary jump “about 19, 20 times” to achieve a natural look for director Lana Wachowski.

If the “John Wick” franchise is any indication, Keanu Reeves has long been interested in doing as much of his own stunts as he can, whether it’s fighting on the PATH train or dodging bullets in a swimming pool. It looks like the same commitment to on-camera fitness applies to “Matrix Resurrections”, the fourth film in the “Matrix” series, and the first since “The Matrix Revolutions” in 2003.

Speaking on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” To promote the film, Reeves detailed a particularly nasty stunt in the new film that involved plunging down a 46-story building with Carrie-Anne Moss, who took on the role of Trinity alongside with Reeves’ Neo.

Reeves said the craziest thing he had to do was “jump off a building… I would guess about 46 stories.” When asked by Colbert why filmmakers don’t just use VFX in post-production, Reeves said: “Because it’s Lana Wachowski and it’s ‘The Matrix’ and you need natural light and you want to do it for real. I mean, wired. Carrie-Anne and I took each other’s hands and jumped off the building. ”

When asked how many times they did the stunt, Reeves said, “We wanted to do it in perfect light in the morning, so we did it about 19, 20 times.”

As for how they internalize and swallow their fear to get into it, Reeves says, “To prepare for such things, she talks a lot about mentally preparing for it, I am also doing that. . When you got there, my heart rate went up a bit, but after the first time, you can’t think of fear. You have to block it, or not block it, but deal with it, absorb it, and just be there, and do. ”

Finally, Reeves said, “It was amazing. Can you imagine yourself jumping off a building with a wire? When asked by Colbert if he had ever bungee jumping, Reeves said, “Never, because I’m afraid of it.”

Reeves admits that, at 57, he can’t do what he used to, but adds, “I still do what I do. With experience comes efficiency, so you will be more efficient. But you want to dance, you want to play, you want to sing.”
