Tory MP ‘remembers’ brave Tom Parker
Conservative MP Derek Thomas (St Ives) has told the House of Commons he will support Amendment 29 and took a moment to ‘just remember’ Wanted star Tom Parker, who died aged 33, after being diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor.
Mr Thomas said: “I am rising to support Amendment 29 and in relation to brain tumors and those who suffer from brain tumours, can I take a moment today to reflect that Tom Parker, the member of The Wanted, who did so much work to raise awareness about brain cancer, worked with the APPG, which I chair, and died on the day of his brain cancer. I just want to take a moment to remember him, his family and the two boys he left behind.”
The St Ives MP stressed: “Any brain cancer patient, whether living with high or low grade brain cancer, should have access to a CNS (Clinical Nurse Specialist) or Keyworker, as suggested by Nice (The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence )”.
He added: “However, the workforce is incredibly stressed. And while everything is done to ensure quality care, there are not enough staff to give each patient the support they need.”
