The 2012 flashback starts things off by explaining that Kate Bishop’s father died during the Chitauri invasion, and Kate was raised by her mother, Eleanor Bishop (Vera Farmiga). But as it moves into the present day, Kate starts naughty in college with her friends. She dared to ring the bell in the clock tower by shooting an arrow at it. However, this quickly backfires as she hits it too hard and the winding bell destroys the top of the building. Professor. But it’s pretty relevant because a blink and you’ll miss it shows the building named “Stane Tower” – as in Obadiah Stane (Jeff Bridges).
Marvel fans will remember that Stane is the secret villain in “Iron Man,” and he’s the one who orchestrated Tony’s kidnapping at the hands of the Ten Rings in the first place. He resented Tony for taking control of the company when it was Stane and Howard Stark (John Slattery) who built it into the huge corporation it is today. Though he was revealed to be a bad guy in the 2008 film, his status as a wealthy corporate businessman has clearly given him some influence along the way. However, his building is not as impressive as the Stark Tower, which later became the Avengers Tower.
All told, the Stane Tower is a nice nod to how far the MCU has come since the early days of “Iron Man”.
