A MOTHER fended off a tiger with her bare hands after the animal sank her toddler’s head with its jaws.
Brave Archana Chaudhary, 25, and her 15-month-old son were in a field in India when the tiger jumped out of a bush and attacked them.
The big cat lowered its powerful jaws around little Rajveer’s head, but his mother sprang into action.
She began punching and kicking the tiger, ignoring the beatings she received from the animal, reports the Times of India.
Although the tiger’s claws pierced her lungs, she continued to struggle for two minutes until her screams were heard by the villagers.
Her husband Bhola Chaudhary described what happened during the horrific attack.
“Rajveer sat and Archana stood nearby,” he said
“Suddenly a tiger appeared, grabbed Rajveer and started running away.
“Archana ran after the tiger about 5 meters and hit the tiger with her hands to save her son. The tiger abandoned the child and attacked Archana.”
After the villagers chased the tiger away with sticks, it finally snuck back into the forest.
Both Archana and her son were taken to the hospital where their wounds are being treated in intensive care.
In addition to a punctured lung, she also suffered injuries to her back, hands and abdomen.
The tiger is being searched for to drive it further back into its natural habitat in the Forest Tiger Reserve.
It comes after a man survived a tiger attack by playing dead.
The video shows a predator leaping from a hedge across a dirt road as terrified villagers ran away in a panic.
It manages to pin a man down while others look on in horror.
Several heartbreaking seconds pass as the man remains calm and motionless as he is in the claws of the endangered animal.
Villagers throw rocks and yell at the tiger before it eventually runs away.
Attacks on people living around tiger reserves are not uncommon, the BBC reports.
Villagers said in addition to tigers, elephants also invaded their villages and damaged their crops.
People living in areas close to forests and national parks experience an increase in human-animal conflict.
Rapid urbanization is destroying natural habitats, forcing animals to invade villages and towns in search of prey and shelter.
Villagers in India are known to take revenge on any tiger they capture.
