The government needs to pour more billions into our troops – Ukraine is a wake-up call

improve defence
The government’s first duty is to “ensure the security of the citizens and the country.”
It’s clearly not safe while hundreds of illegal migrants walk in from our beaches every day.

But we should also be concerned about our safety and defense.
Our armed forces have been underfunded by successive governments for years.
But if the war in Ukraine – to which we contribute arms, know-how and now tanks – isn’t a wake-up call, then what is?
Rishi Sunak won’t commit to spending plans ahead of a March review.
And No. 10 insists we have Europe’s largest defense budget after a huge cash injection under Boris Johnson.
It smacks of complacency when a US general secretly fears that British forces are too exhausted to defend us.
The EU states, frightened by Putin, are investing billions more in their troops.
We should stop the cuts in our country – and follow suit.
Kremlin clowns
The Kremlin’s self-deception has since disappeared from the charts.
Here’s a regime that sent murderers to Salisbury with a chemical weapon and then absurdly claimed these brazen thugs were tourists admiring the cathedral.

It openly lied that it would never invade Ukraine. And since then it has lied and lied and denied its many atrocities.
Now, when Boris Johnson reveals that Putin idly threatened to kill him too, it feigns outrage – he calls Boris a liar and claims their leader would never do such a thing.
Who do they hope to deceive? Do you really think that Putin or Russia still has a reputation to uphold?
The Russian government is a cabal of thieving gangsters run by a pathetic little crook who trades in deadly threats. With his approval, his cheerleaders even threaten to bomb Western cities with nuclear weapons on state television.
It’s a bit late for them to raise the moral high ground over a remark made by Boris.
cesspool
We have long known that Twitter is a cesspool where arrogant, hateful know-nothings congregate to flaunt their ignorance.
It’s also long been apparent how it’s ruined politics – with addicted MPs playing for “likes” in its gallery – along with our police force and more.

Not to mention how it fuels societal division and anger.
But now we also know that it is the biggest provider of kid porn.
More children have seen objectionable content there than on real porn sites.
Worse, it teaches them that aggression during sex is normal.
Well done, all at the social media giant.

If only they had spent more time rooting up the dirt and less time covertly silencing conservatives.
Before Elon Musk emerged, they seemed less concerned about harming children than harming US Democrats.
