The last time we left ABC’s good doctorShaun told Lea he couldn’t marry her anymore – and Monday’s mid-season premiere didn’t assures fans that the film’s central couple will be happily ever after.
What I find most interesting is that the series goes back to the conversation Shaun and Lea had almost exactly two years ago, in the Season 3 episode “Autopsy. At that point, Carly ended her relationship with Dr. Murphy, realizing that her boyfriend was very much in love with Lea. But when he confronts Lea and says he wants to be with her, Lea says his autism gets in the way of any potential romance. Of course, only a few short weeks before catastrophic event brought them together, and Lea’s former interests were never mentioned again.
All that changed on Monday. At the end of Season 5’s 8th episode, “Rebellion,” Shaun asked Lea if she thought he was “good enough” for her. After all, “you told me once that you couldn’t have sex with me because of my ASD,” he recalls.
“Is that what you think?” Leah asked.
“That’s what you speakShaun replied.
“A long time ago!” she cried. “Are you seriously telling me you don’t see a difference in the way I feel about you? That I haven’t grown up at all? That our relationship hasn’t grown? “
Lea went on to defend some of her recent actions, including manipulating Shaun’s patient satisfaction scores and making a secret trip to Montana to get Glassman. “All I’m trying to do is help someone I hold dear, be there for you like you were there for me, but you just can’t seem to see it that way no matter how hard I try. how many times,” she cried. “Will all my mistakes turn into something you’ll turn against me forever?”
In that moment, Lea decided that she no longer needed Shaun’s forgiveness. Furthermore, she finished apologizing for helping him. “What you are saying is that I am not good enough for Friend,” she argued. “And if that’s how you feel, then maybe we shouldn’t get married. And maybe we shouldn’t even live together. “
As the episode unsettlingly ends, Lea is seen crying in her car, while a tearful Shaun lies on the couch reflecting on a bad, terrible, not good, very bad day his bad.
Speaking of worrisome situations, let’s briefly discuss the outcome of the fall’s final battle – and what’s likely to happen. As you will recall, squeezing every penny of Ethicure resulted in death can be avoided of a premature baby. Salen managed to pay off the baby’s mother, then forced hospital pharmacist Dr Fremes out the door shortly after he signed a non-disclosure agreement.
Lim, still angry, is determined to take Salen down, but she needs Fremes’ written proof that EthiCure is responsible for the prime minister’s departure in order to present her case before the Attorney General. of the state. Fremes ended up being an absentee from the meeting, unwilling to part with his severance and denying his NDA for the sake of the hospital. In turn, AG refused to investigate Lim’s claims, and presumably informed Salen that Lim had come to see her, sparking an all-out fight between EthiCure’s CEO and St. . Bonaventure.
