The French goalkeeper is outraged by the new ‘anti-Emi Martinez’ penalty rules as he ironically claims saves are banned

The changes will prevent goalkeepers from taunting and disrupting penalty takers.

And they were introduced in the wake of Emiliano Martinez’s controversial World Cup Finals antics.

In the penalty shoot-out against France, the Argentinian goalkeeper tried to gain a psychological advantage using tactics such as throwing the ball away.

The mind games worked when Argentina won the cup, but as of July they are no longer allowed.

New penalty rules will be introduced from July

  • Goalkeepers are not allowed to touch the posts, the crossbar or the goal net before a penalty kick is taken.
  • Goalkeepers must not delay the execution of a penalty kick.
  • Goalkeepers must not unfairly distract the shooter.
  • Goalkeepers are not allowed to show disrespectful behavior.

New rules state that goalkeepers are not allowed to touch the posts, the crossbar or the net of the goal before taking a shot.

They are also not allowed to delay the execution of the penalty by throwing or kicking the ball away.

In addition, goalkeepers must not unfairly distract the shooter by speaking or gesturing at them.

Finally, they must not engage in behavior that disrespects the customer, such as B. Over-the-top celebrations.

Many fans have since criticized the new rulebook, with some even suggesting that they are “ruining” the game.

France goalkeeper Maignan has also expressed his disapproval.

In a sarcastic tweet, he wrote: “New IFAB Penalty Rules 2026: Goalkeepers must have their backs to the shot. If the penalty is saved, the opponent gets an indirect free kick.”

Ironically, Maignan saved a penalty in France’s international game on Friday.

In the 95th minute of the Euro 2024 qualifier against the Netherlands, he came on to save Memphis Depay’s penalty.

France won the game 4-0 thanks to goals from Antoine Griezmann, Dayot Upamecano and Kylian Mbappe.
