And the striker was in the stands for Saturday’s Premier League game against Bournemouth.

However, Brentford fans were left in disbelief as the Frenchman sat next to former Southampton manager Jones, who carried a “book full of notes” during the 2-2 draw with the Cherries.

Another commented: “Just saw Nathan Jones talking to Neil at the Brentford game [sic] Maupay??”

A third posted: “Nathan Jones was sitting next to Maupay what the heck?”

This fan said: “Nathan Jones with a book full of notes chatting to Neal Maupay at the Brentford game. Any ideas?”

And he wondered: “I get Maupay because he was there before and did well. However, he was lucky to make the move. Nathan Jones is just bizarre though!”

The 50-year-old manager was sacked by the Saints after just 14 games with the club at the bottom of the Premier League.

During his brief tenure, the former Luton boss drew attention with his replies at press conferences when he suggested he had “compromised principles” while at St. Mary’s.

Jones also claimed he was one of the best managers in Europe despite losing a whopping nine games in his short tenure.
